I know this is for two reasons: The main one, where we survive a major catastrophe that forces me into the desert. And secondly, I want to know how the tribes are likely to survive in my book.
I know about hunting with bow and arrow, but I'm more interested in things like food, like perserved winter. And how can the vegetables need to survive if it can grow only one crop per year?

Well, perhaps not very difficult - our ancestors for millions of years, and we are all still there, so we know who has survived!
